FEBRUARY 2016 MEETING

As is tradition, membership has voted to suspend the January 2016 meeting.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 02 at 1900 hrs in the VFW Hall on County Road.

2016 DUES REMINDER

This a reminder to all members who have not submitted their 2016 dues renewal.

If not paid by DEC 31, members lose their service years.  
In addition, dues are increasing from $25 to $30 on JAN 01.

Please submit ASAP.

2015 CHRISTMAS FOOD DRIVE

The annual 2015 CHRISTMAS FOOD DRIVE for the benefit of the Ipswich Food Pantry is underway.  
The drive will operate from December 01 - 21.

Marked boxes have been placed in the lobby of the VFW Hall to collect non-perishable food items.  
Please donate generously.

DECEMBER 2015 MEETING

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, 01 December 2015 at 1900 hrs at the VFW Hall on County Road.

VETERAN'S DAY OBSERVANCES

The following activities are scheduled in observance of Veteran's Day, Wednesday 11 November 11 2015.

1.  The 2015 Veterans Appreciation Breakfast will be held on Saturday, 07 November 2015 from 0900 - 1100 at the VFW Hall on County Road.  Participants are urged to arrive around 0830.  

This event is hosted by Representative Brad Hill and the First Church of Ipswich.  Please RSVP Maura Driscoll, Legislative Aide to Representative Hill: Maura.Driscoll@mahouse.gov or (617) 722-2100.

2.  The 2015 Veteran's Day Parade will form up at the Ipswich War Memorial at 1030 on Wednesday, 11 November 2015.  A short ceremony will be held and then parade to the VFW Hall for closing ceremonies.  Refreshments will be served after the parade.

3.  The 1640 Hart House has again opened it's doors for a free luncheon to all Ipswich Vets.  Eligible veterans are asked to assemble at 1300 on Wednesday, 11 November 2015 at the Hart House.  A short ceremony to commemorate the 150th Birthday of the US Marine Corps will be held prior to serving lunch.  Veterans attending must be residents of Ipswich but do not have to be members of a veterans organization.

CHRISTMAS FOOD DRIVE

The annual Christmas Food Drive for the benefit of the Ipswich Food Pantry will commence on 
01 December 2015. 

Collection boxes will be placed in the lobby of the VFW Hall for non-perishable food items.  

The drive will run from 01-22 December.

VETERAN'S DAY PLANNING

Planning has commenced for the various Veteran's Day celebrations scheduled this year for 
Wednesday, 11 November 2015.

Volunteers are need for various positions.

IPSWICH DINNER BELL

Due to the resounding success of our last sponsorship, membership of Post 80 has voted to sponsor another night at the Ipswich Dinner Bell.  The date is tentatively scheduled for Monday, September 28.

More volunteers are needed.  
Twelve members have pledged to participate, approximately 16 total are needed to properly run the event.

VA FAIR

Hamilton Post 194 is sponsoring a VA Fair on 13 SEP 2015 from 1100 - 1600.  The fair will feature a variety of services available to veterans.  Post 194 is located at 37 School Street, Hamilton, MA and all vets are invited.

COAST GUARD DAY 2015

The August 4 meeting was coincidentally COAST GUARD DAY, which this year marked the 225th Birthday of the Nation's oldest continuous naval service.  Refreshments were served at the end of the meeting.

AUGUST 2015 MEETING

INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS

All officers for the 2015/2016 season were sworn in at the July meeting.  
Pictures of the event are posted in the Gallery.

SEMI-ANNUAL 50/50 RAFFLE

The Semi-Annual 50/50 Raffle was held at the July meeting.  Paul Lemieux was the winner of a $63 prize.  The post will add the remainder to the bank account to support Post operations.

FLAG DAY

Sunday, June 14 is Flag Day.  Traditionally Post 80 schedules a flag decommissioning/disposal event for all worn US flags.  Final scheduling has not yet been completed.  Watch this space for further details.

UPDATE!

The ceremony has been scheduled for 1830, June 14 @ the VFW on County Road.  Volunteers are needed.

IPSWICH DINNER BELL

Post 80 is sponsoring the weekly Dinner Bell community meal on Monday, June 22.  Ten members have volunteered to date, and more are welcome.  Members are to meet at the Masonic Hall on Topsfield Road at 1600 hrs.  For more information, contact Commander Graffum.

POST RAFFLE

Post 80 was the winner of the new gas grill raffled off by District 8.  Post 80 membership voted to raffle the grill off to Post members, with Stan Trocki being the lucky winner!

The planned Memorial Day activities are as follows:

May 15 - 17   Annual Poppy Drive

May 20         Ipswich Schools observances
                        Bus leaves the VFW Hall @ 0730.

May 22          Decoration of Veteran's Graves
                         Meet at 1800 at the cemetary

May 24          Religious Service
                         Ascension Memorial Church
                         31 County Street
                         Meet at church at 1000

May 25          Parade
                         Meet at 0930 on the North Green.

All vets are invited to attend.

IPSWICH DINNER BELL

The night of the Post 80 sponsored Ipswich Dinner Bell meal has been changed to Monday, June 22.

To date, thirteen members have volunteered to assist.  
Additional volunteers are needed.

MAY 2015 MEETING

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 5 @ 1900 hrs at the VFW Hall on County Road.

This is a very important meeting as planning for the Poppy Drive Weekend and Memorial Day activities will be discussed.  Volunteers will be needed for both events.

IPSWICH DINNER BELL

A tentative date of Monday, June 8 has been set for the Post 80 sponsorship of the weekly Ipswich Dinner Bell community dinner.  Volunteers are needed to assist with hosting and serving the meal.  
All cooking, setup and cleanup will be done by professional staff.  
More information will be available at the May and June meetings.

An alternate date of Monday, June 29 will be used if there is a conflict for the June 8 date.

The order of uniform items has been received.

APRIL 2015 MEETING

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, 7 APRIL 2015 @ 1900 hrs in the VFW Hall on County Road.

This is an important meeting as it will finalize plans for the Ipswich Dinner Bell and start the preliminary planning for Memorial Day activities, including the annual Poppy Drive.

IPSWICH DINNER BELL

Membership has voted to sponsor one night of the Ipswich Dinner Bell community meal.  A exact date of the event will be determined at the April meeting.  Dinner Bell staff do all the meal planning, shopping, cooking and primary setup for the evening.  Post volunteers are need to assist serving and provide a representative presence for the Post.

UNIFORM ITEMS

The Commander is in the process of compiling a new uniform item order.  Anyone desiring a windbreaker, jacket, sweatshirt, hat, etc.  should contact him promptly before the order is submitted.

The February meeting scheduled for Tuesday, February 3 was cancelled due to the snow emergency.  
It will NOT be rescheduled due to continued blizzard conditions.
