The annual Wreaths Across America convoy, enroute to Arlington National Cemetary, will overnight at the Topsfield Fair Grounds on Monday, 9 December 2013. A ceremony and luncheon is planned for 1500 hrs, with all veterans and veteran's organizations invited.

FEBRUARY 2014 MEETING
The January meeting was canceled by a unanimous vote of membership at the December meeting. The next scheduled meeting will be held on Tuesday, 4 February 2014 @ 1900 hrs in the VFW Hall.
Should a matter requiring the immediate attention of membership develop in January,
the Post Commander will call a special meeting to address that issue.

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS FOOD DRIVE
The annual Christmas Food Drive for the benefit of the Ipswich Food Pantry will be held from Sunday, 01 December 2013 to Sunday 22 December 2013. Collection boxes will be set up by the front door of the VFW Hall.

AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL
At the OCT 1 monthly meeting, membership voted to sponsor an American Legion Baseball team for the 2014 season. There are no American Legion Baseball games being currently played in Ipswich due to lack of playing fields. A solution to that situation is being explored. Once the sponsorship is finalized, and the 2014 schedule announced, it will be posted on this site on a separate page.

POST 80 HONORS 70 YEARS OF SERVICE
At the July meeting, Post members, family members, State Senator Bruce Tarr and State Representative Brad Hill honored Jake Burridge for his service in WWII, service to the Town of Ipswich and service and membership in the American Legion since 1944. A Proclamation from the Govenor of the Commonwealth, a joint Proclamation from the General Court of Massachusetts and a citation from the American Legion Department of Massachusetts was presented to Jake. Refreshments were served after the ceremony.

FLAG DAY - 2013
Flag Day, traditionally June 14, will be honored this year on Tuesday, June 11 at the VFW Hall. An appropriate retirement ceremony will be conducted and all retired flags from the past year will be respectfully destroyed. Members are urged to attend.
2013 IPSWICH HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP
This year's Post 80 Scholarship was awarded to Jennifer Kshanika Miniter, a graduating senior at Ipswich High School. Kshanika plans to attend Westfield State University in the fall and major in Elementary Education.

2013 IHS SCHOLARSHIP
A meeting of the Scholarship Committee was held on Tuesday, May 7. Members reviewed 17 applications submitted by graduating seniors at Ipswich High School and a selection was made for the 2013 award. That senior will be publicly identified after proper notifications have been made to IHS.

A decision was made by membership, at the April meeting, on a supplier for winter jackets. The cost, including patches and embroidery, will be approximately $100 each, with 50% being paid by the Post. Interested members should contact Vice-Commander Walt Bartniski to order.
