At the December 5 meeting, members voted to suspend the January 2012 meeting due to the proximity of the holidays. The next meeting will be held in February 2012, with the exact date to be determined. The VFW Hall is being used by the Town of Ipswich on the first Tuesday of February and may not be available for Legion use. Members will be notified when an exact date is determined.

HOLIDAY CONTRIBUTIONS
At the December 5 meeting, the members voted the following charitable donations for the Christmas Season:
- A $250. donation will be made to Ipswich Caring for the benefit of needy children. Ipswich Caring provided needed clothing and toys for Christmas.
- A $50. donation will be made to the Ipswich Food Pantry to provide a turkey dinner for Christmas to a needy family. A turkey dinner was donated for Thanksgiving.
- A $30 donation will be made to the American Legion Department of Massachusetts Holiday Raffle. Money raised will be used to fund Veterans Programs.
- The annual Christmas Food Drive will continue until December 22. One load of food has already been delivered to the Ipswich Food Pantry.

VETERAN'S DAY 2011
There are a wide variety of commemorative activities scheduled for this 11/11/11.
SAT NOV 5 - Topsfield Parade - Members are asked to form up at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church NLT 1030.
SUN NOV 6 - Appreciation Breakfast - Sponsored by the First Church, Ipswich, the free breakfast is provided to any veteran starting at 0830.
WED NOV 9 - Memorial Hall - A commemorative plaque will be attached to Memorial Hall, the former home of Post 80, in a ceremony starting at 1200.
FRI NOV 11 - Ipswich Parade - Members are asked for form up at the Veteran's Memorial on South Main Street NLT 1030.
SUPPORT FOR THE IPSWICH FOOD PANTRY
The Post will initiate two programs in support of the Ipswich Food Pantry this year:
1. Members have voted to provide turkeys, or cash in lieu of turkeys, to the Pantry for Thanksgiving.
2. The annual Ipswich Veteran's Food Drive will be conducted from November 25 - December 22. Boxes located in the lobby of the VFW Hall will collect food donations from veterans and other concerned citizens for the benefit of the Pantry.
WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA
The Post has been invited, again this year, to participate in the welcoming of the WREATHS ACROSS AMERICAN caravan enroute to Arlington National Cemetary. Members are urged to meet at the Topsfield Fairgrounds on Monday, December 5 @ 1100 for the ceremonies. INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS FOR 2012
On July 5, 2011, the Annual Installation of Post 80 Officers for the 2012 year was conducted. A reception for all hands was held after the ceremony.

JULY 2011 MEETING
The July 2011 meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 1900 in the VFW Hall. In addition, the annual Installation of Officers will be held, followed by a reception.
2011 SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
The 2011 American Legion Post 80 Scholarship Award was presented at the Ipswich High School graduation ceremony on Sunday, June 5, 2011. Taylor Castonguay, who will be attending the University of Arizona next year, was the finalist. Congratulations Taylor!
FLAG DAY 2011
Flag day will be observed on July 14, 2011. All interested members are invited to attend the annual ceremony to properly dispose of American Flags at 1800, in the rear of the VFW Hall.

2011 POPPY DRIVE
Planning for the planned 2011 Poppy Drive to be held the weekend of May 20-22 has been completed and members assigned posts of duty.
SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE
A meeting of the Scholarship Committee was held on Tuesday, May 3. Members reviewed 13 applications submitted by graduating seniors at Ipswich High School and a selection was made for the 2011 award. That senior will be publically identified after proper notifications have been made to IHS.

RED SOX GAME
The Ipswich VFW post has proposed that the VFW and Legion posts attend a Boston Red Sox home game this summer. Both posts are attempting to determine how many members might be interested in this event. If you are interested, please attend the May meeting, or contact Commander Jim Graffum. GO SOX!
MEMORIAL DAY POPPY DRIVE
This year's Poppy Drive will be held May 21 - 23. Volunteers will be assigned posts of duty at the May meeting. The second shipment of poppies has been received and 5000 are available for distribution.
SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE
Don Cole reported that the application forms have been delivered to the Ipswich High School. Applications are due to be returned to the Guidance Department by April 15. The Scholarship Committee will meet to make a 2011 selection after the general May meeting.

The Scholarship Committee is planning to meet in April to review the applicants for the 2011 American Legion Post 80 Scholarship. Appropriate application materials have been delivered to the Ipswich High School Guidance Department.
