FEBRUARY 2011 MEETING

At the December meeting, Post members voted to cancel the January 2011 meeting due to close scheduling with the Holidays. The next meeting will be held, Tuesday February 1 at 1930 hrs in the VFW hall.

CHRISTMAS GIVING

Post members voted to donate $250. to Ipswich Caring for the benefit of underprivileged children during the Christmas season.

Christmas wreaths were donated by Corliss Brothers to decorate the various "Hero Squares" in Ipswich. Post members were responsible for hanging the memorials.

The annual Christmas food drive for the benefit of the Ipswich Food Pantry has been a resounding success.

HOLIDAY PROJECTS

The Post has voted to initiate two community service projects in honor of the upcoming holidays.

1. In addition to our regular monthly food collection for the Ipswich Food Pantry, a special Thanksgiving collection with be held in conjunction with the VFW Post as was done last year. The collection will commence just before Thanksgiving and conclude just prior to Christmas.

2. A donation of $250. will be made to Ipswich Caring to provide Christmas gifts to needy town children.

VETERANS DAY PARADE

The annual Ipswich Veterans Day Parade will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2010. Participants must form up at the Town War Memorial no later than 1030 hrs, with the ceremony to commence promptly at 1045 hrs. After the opening ceremony, the parade will march to the VFW Hall for closing ceremonies. Refreshments will be served.

DECEMBER 2010 - MEETING

The December meeting of Post 80 will be held on Tuesday, December 7 (Pearl Harbor Day) at 1900 hrs in the VFW Hall.

NOVEMBER 2010 MEETING

The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 1900 in the VFW Hall. PLEASE NOTE: This meeting in being held on Wednesday vice the usual first Tuesday due to Election Day voting be held at the YMCA. Please remember to vote!

VETERANS DAY PARADE

Planning has commenced for the annual Ipswich Veterans Day Parade, to be held this year on Thursday, November 11, 2010. Paricipants will form up at the Town Veterans Memorial at 1030. More information will be forthcoming at the November meeting.

NEW POLO SHIRTS

Ted Lemieux is headed to Florida with a order for polo shirts. If interested contact him before he departs. The cost is estimated to be $19/ea, with the Post picking up half the cost. With enough orders, the price will decrease.

AUGUST 2010 MEETING

The August 2010 Meeting will be held Tuesday August 3, 2010 at 1900 in the VFW Meeting Hall.

INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS

An Installation of Officers ceremony and reception was held at the monthly meeting on Tuesday July 6, 2010. All officers currently serving were unanimously re-elected for the new term.

LEGION BALL CAPS

Service Officer Ted Lemieux has graciously offered to put together an order of embroided American Legion ballcaps for the Post. Each will cost approximately $11-12. Ted has an example of the caps, with the VFW logo, and the product presents as excellent quality. Anyone interested should contact Ted.

2010 SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

The Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce the winner of the 2010 Post 80 Scholarship. Ashley A. Whippen, a senior at Ipswich High School, is planning to attend Endicott College in Beverly MA with the intention of becoming a school teacher. The Post wishes her the best, both in her academic pursuits and her career.

JULY 2010 MEETING

The July meeting will be held Tuesday, July 6 @ 1900 hours in the VFW hall.

MEMORIAL DAY PARADE

The annual Ipswich Memorial Day Parade will be held on Monday, May 31. Members are to assemble on the North Green NLT 0945.

MEMORIAL DAY RELIGIOUS SERVICE

The annual religious service for Memorial Day will be held this year at the Greek Orthodox Church at 0900 on Sunday, May 30.

DECORATION OF VETERAN GRAVES

Members who have volunteered to decorate the graves of Vets with flags will meet at the cemetary at 1800 on Friday, May 28.

ANNUAL POPPY DRIVE

The annual Poppy Drive will be held on May 21-23. This program is the only fund raising activity for the year and benefits the Scholarship Program and Veteran's Services. Members have volunteered for the following posts:

Members will be contacted to confirm the week prior to the operation. Arrangements will be made to distribute poppies and canisters at that time.

IPSWICH SCHOOLS MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM

The annual Ipswich Public Schools Memorial Day program will be held on Friday, May 28. Participating members should meet at the VFW Hall NLT 0730 that morning for bus transportation. Lunch will be provided.

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

A meeting of the Scholarship Committee will be held on Monday, May 10 @ 1830 hrs. Members will review all applications and determine the IHS scholarship winner. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A CHANGE FROM THE ORIGINAL DATE OF TUESDAY, MAY 11.

JUNE 2010 MEETING

The June meeting will be held Tuesday, June 01, 2010 @ 1900 hrs in the VFW Hall.
